Pollutants We Treat Effectively

This page details all the specific pollutants that we have removed from water. It is not an exhaustive list and is being updated continually. It should give you an idea of whether we can remove the pollutant in your water, but if you don’t see the one you are interested in then get in touch.

Water Quality Analysis

In order to check the quality parameters of contaminated water and decipher an appropriate treatment method, water sample testing must be conducted.

Water analysis is one of the in-house services we offer prior to treating any polluted water. By testing contaminant levels, we ensure that the process(es) we are recommending provide sufficient pollutant removal without overtreating, as this can result in unnecessary additional running costs.

Water Pollution Solutions

Wastewater treatment technologies are designed to remove specific contamination types and can be placed up/downstream from one another to provide a wider treatment envelope.

The Nyex™ systems specialise in organic chemical removal and work well to support biological processes, ion exchange, filtration and reverse osmosis technologies.

If you would like us to test your water to identify what pollutants it contains, get in touch. Once we know what is in the water we can propose how best to treat it.

What are the causes of water pollution?

Water pollution occurs when clean water is used and contaminated with different substances which affect the quality parameters of the water. This occurs during industrial manufacturing, agricultural activities, mining, domestic usage, landfill leachate and intensive farming.

Dirty water from industrial facilities is known as effluent and contains various types of contamination which causes environmental pollution when this is not adequately treated.

Types of water pollution

Types of pollution can be categorised by their intended use; for example, pharmaceuticals, personal care products (pcp), agrochemicals, industrial cleaners and other harmful chemicals.

Effects of water pollution

Pollutants cause untold damage to aquatic ecosystems, to the point where to this day, we still do not fully understand the extent in some cases.Research is ongoing in relation to chemicals and pharmaceuticals in drinking water, antibiotics in water and pesticides in water supply and how they impact both humans and wildlife. The reality is, we are inadvertently consuming traces of pollutants in water every single day and types of chemicals such as endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) can cause lasting damage to the hormonal system, such as cancer and infertility.Polluted water containing pharmaceutical residues is causing antimicrobial resistance (AMR). AMR occurs when genetic changes take place in microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites. This can render medications against various infections ineffective.
