Who are Arvia™ Technology?

Arvia™ Technology is a new company that was set up in January 2007 with a wealth of high-level commercial and technical experience primarily from the water industry.

Management Team

Roger Ford (Executive Chairman)

Roger started his career at ICI, notably launching and growing the highly-successful FM21 business. After managing a team of over 180 scientists at ICI, with an annual budget in excess of £15M, Roger was headhunted to North West Water (now part of United Utilities) where he had board-level responsibility as Director of R&D across 10 countries. During this time, Roger built-up a team of over 50 scientists, lead the acquisition of two membrane treatment companies which were then consolidated under one business unit and took on additional responsibility as Environmental Quality Director. Roger is a keen enthusiast of enterprise and early-stage technologies and also holds the position of Professor for Innovation and Technology Strategy at the University of Salford.


Nigel Brown (Technical Director & Founder)

Nigel is the principal inventor of the Arvia™ process and founding Technical Director and has over 20 years' experience of process development within the global wastewater industry. Nigel previously worked as an Independent Environmental Consultant specialising in water management and wastewater treatment, including a number of international projects in China, Poland, Zimbabwe and Pakistan. Before becoming established on an independent basis, Nigel held positions as Process Engineering Manager at Simon-Hartley Ltd (specialising in the design and construction of effluent treatment plant and equipment) and as the Environmental Engineer at Foseco International Ltd with responsibilities for the water discharges from Foseco factories round the world.


Harvey West (Director)

A qualified civil engineer and graduate of INSEAD's Advanced Management Programme, Harvey is Chief Executive of VO-Gen Energy, the UK based bio-energy company. He also currently acts as Executive Chairman of HydroVenturi, a clean technology spin-out company from Imperial College, London, and as an investor and developer he has been active in the UK and European clean technology sectors since 1990. He has grown a number of businesses from startup to become market leaders in their sector, and has held main board positions with utility organizations such as Hyder Industrial, United Utilities Green Energy and Acciona Energia UK.


Richard Price (Business Manager)

Richard has spent ten years working on commercial and technical development of emerging technologies, primarily across the chemicals, materials and electronics sectors. As a Business Manager at UMIP®, Richard has been involved in a wide-range of commercialisation activities including business/project-management, business development and fund-raising. He has secured over £2M funding across various early-stage projects and spin-out companies during the past three years.


Warren Davies (Sales and Marketing Manager)

Warren has over 30 years experience in the utilities sector, having previously worked for United Utilities in a variety of roles. More recently Warren has developed his own independent environmental consultancy (Davies Greenwood) specialising in technical sales for wastewater treatment.


Dr Ted Roberts (Research Director and Founder)

Ted is a Senior Lecturer with the School of Chemical & Analytical Sciences at The University of Manchester and a founder shareholder in Arvia™. Ted continues to lead the research work at The University of Manchester and is co-inventor of the continuous adsorption-regeneration Arvia™ process. Ted is a leading expert in electrochemical engineering and is a member and former Chairman of the SCI Electrochemical Technology Committee. He also has research interests in environmental applications, energy storage systems and fuel cells.


Sam Corcoran (Finance Director & Company Secretary)

Sam is a chartered tax adviser and accountant, experienced in managing finances and company secretarial matters for SMEs and venture-capital backed spin-out companies.
